Training a Nanny to Outshine your Babysitter, Childcare Provider, and Housekeeper

As a Professional Home Economist I have developed a service that will empower you to set the expectations and responsibilities for your new Live-In Caregiver or Nanny.

This service is offered in 2 parts which ultimately leaves you with a Nanny that understands your family’s needs and works at her full potential to satisfy those needs.  It is the goal to have her become so much more than a babysitter or housekeeper.

The first part entails working with you, the employer (Mom), before your caregiver arrives.  We will conduct a room by room tour of your home determining the priorities and responsibilities for your caregiver. A spreadsheet will be created outlining the regular tasks versus projects to be completed when time permits and forwarded to you shortly after this initial visit.   There will also be column suggesting actions you take to create organization before your nanny arrives.  We will also discuss important information regarding administration details you will need to help your caregiver achieve upon arrival: Alberta Health Care, Social Insurance Number, opening a bank account, acquiring a cell phone, and choosing a long distance package. The overwhelming list of things to prepare will be presented in a manual including payroll calculation, work schedule, meal preparation, laundry, master planning of daily tasks, and so much more.

The second part of my service will take place on your Caregiver's first day of

Employment . I will again come to your home and spend the day with her introducing the responsibilities and expectations you have chosen with hands-on training.  Your caregiver and I will be cleaning the family room and a bathroom, changing a bed, washing and folding a load of laundry, and finally preparing a meal.  This hands-on day will also include a working demonstration of all the appliances in your home.  The same room by room tour initially taken with you will be repeated as the responsibilities and expectations are explained.  It is your option to be present as I spend the day as I understand personal work commitments.

The fee to serve you is $987.00. Hiring and training a stranger is a very stressful situation. As a mother of 3, almost 4, who has had Live-In Caregivers for the past 3.5 years, I understand.  This service has been developed to ease that stress and anxiety of introducing a new member to your family that will be responsible for your children. I wish this service I had been an option the first time we hired!
